pg.420 Down the River Post 52
Yes if that what was needed in order to make everything right between David and the smokies then yes I would.
pg.415 Confessions Post 51
No, because if she never told him then she will have lived with that burden on her shoulders her whole life. Yes he will change his mind, then when she does something to make up for what she did he will like her again.
pg.405 Hippocratic Oath Post 50
No because it is her choice. If something goes wrong on her then she will never be happy, at least if she has lesions she will always be happy. Also, the results could very if she is unwilling, maybe she wouldn't help the results of the pill.
pg.398 Night Post 49
Yes, because I would want my own personality, and everything about me that makes me who I am. It would be stupid not to, once your a pretty you don't have a point in life.
pg.389 Getaway Post 48
This quote means that even though Tally and Shay were having problems, and Shay just forgave her, but not for real, that Tally still cares about Shay, even if she isn't like her normal self. Which is good, because maybe there is hope for Shay to think normal again.
pg.382 Rescue Post 47
- Shay was forced to get the operation.
- Shay says she doesn't hate Tally anymore.
- Tally rescued Croy and some other smokies.
- Maddy says they can't help Az.
- Maddy tells them that Az is dead. (kicker)
pg.374 Inside Post 46
Yes they go station to station, and then finally finish the operation in the theatre. Which isn't right because that means they do it like it is a play not someones life, they are messing with.
What labels do Tally and David find in the Special Circumstances building? Give a brief description of what you think each means.
- radiology- science of x-rays
- neurology-science of the nerves
- magnetic imaging-rearranging of the skin
Describe Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter using textual evidence.
"She was tall and elegant, every feature perfection. Her eyes-deep and soulful, flecked with copper and gold- wordlessly, and she raised one graceful hand. Tally's heart almost stopped at the beauty of her confusion."
pg.367 Over the Edge Post 45
Choose you president wisely, because I think that the person that should lead our country should be someone who everyone likes. It's very important the president is the label for our country to everyone else in the world, and we should have a good first impression.
pg.359 Accomplices Post 44
Tally has change, because now she isn't has immature as she use to be. These uglies are very immature, adventuress, and willing to do tricks just how Tally use to be. She matured while she was at Smoke working hard, and learning what really goes on in life.
pg.348 Familiar Sights Post 43
Maybe because the whole special circumstances is looking for them, but the will of them put together could possibly pull it off. Tally's drive is trying to keep Tally happy, not that she really cares. I do think she is crazy... crazy over David, and yes she maybe does care a little bit.
pg.340 The Oil Plague Post 42
They describe the rusties as people who used the enviroment in a bad way. They used stuff, but never recycled it, or burned oil products. Also, they say they aren't very smart, because they should have just stopped using oil products then they wouldn't have spread the plague.
What are weaknesses of our society?
We are not safe in the way that we hurt the enviroment, because it will eventually drastically change, and effect us all. Also, we are very violent people, just in our daily actions.
What are weaknesses of their society?
They don't use the enviroment to it's full extent, and take advantage of the stuff that they could have like us. Also, they are very protected in the sense that they live by one set of rules, and have never really experienced anything else.
pg.333 Maddy and Az Post 41

Hurricane Ike (pronounced /ˈaɪk/) was the third costliest hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States. It was the ninth named storm, fifth hurricane and third major hurricane of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season.[1][2] It was a Cape Verde-type hurricane, as it started as a tropical disturbance near Africa at the end of August. On September 1, 2008, it became a tropical storm west of the Cape Verde islands.[3][4] By the early morning hours of September 4, Ike was a Category 4 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph (230 km/h) and a pressure of 935 mbar (27.61 inHg).[5] That made it the most intense Atlantic storm of 2008. Ike passed over the Turks and Caicos Islands as Category 4, with winds 135 mph (217 km/h) on September 7. Moving west along Cuba, it made 2 landfalls as a Category 4 hurricane on September 7 and a Category 1 hurricane on September 9. Ike made its final landfall over Galveston, Texas as a strong Category 2 hurricane, with Category 5 equivalent storm surge, on September 13, 2008 at 2:10 a.m. CDT. Hurricane-force winds extended 120 miles (193 km) from the center.[inconsistent]
Ike was blamed for at least 195 deaths. Of these, 74 were in Haiti, which was already trying to recover from the impact of three storms earlier that year: Fay, Gustav, and Hanna. In the United States, 112 people were killed, and over 300 are still missing.[2][6] Due to its immense size, Ike caused devastation from the Louisiana coastline all the way to the Kenedy County, Texas region near Corpus Christi, Texas.[7] In addition, Ike caused flooding and significant damage along the Mississippi coastline and the Florida Panhandle[8] Damages from Ike in US coastal and inland areas are estimated at $24 billion (2008 USD)[2], with additional damage of $7.3 billion in Cuba (the costliest storm ever in that country), $200 million in the Bahamas, and $500 million in the Turks and Caicos, amounting to a total of at least $32 billion in damages. Ike was the third costliest Atlantic hurricane of all time, behind Hurricane Andrew of 1992 and Hurricane Katrina of 2005.[2] The hurricane also resulted in the largest evacuation of Texans in that state's history. It also became the largest search and rescue operation in U.S. history.[

pg.325 Ruin Post 40
Tally's victory was bitter sweet in a couple of ways. She salvaged a piece of the smoke, but she lost a lot more than she saved from the library. Also, the boss was lost in the process so it was much of a win to me.

pg.319 Amazing Post 39
Yes and no, yes because she is quite spectactular from the side of her that he has seen, but if he would have known all the other stuff she did, he wouldn't like her that much. She should feel guilty, because she is just playing him on with a bunch of lies.
pg.313 Run Post 38
It is a friend I think, because it wasn't scary sounding. I think it will be someone close to Tally, and she will bond with that person even more.
pg.304 In Case of Damage Post 37
Self preservation means that you do what ever it takes to make your image look good, even if you have to lie or do somehthing not morally right to keep it. So yes I would lie because of it, because I am the most important to myself so I would.
pg.297 The Rabbit Pen Post 36
She is on Smoke's side, but it took her a little bit to long to figure that out for herself. Since she changed her mind right before special operations came, the people in smoke may not believe her now. She got into a bad situation along time ago, and now she must deal with the consequences.
pg.287 Invasion Post 35
Yes, because in this chapter we will see what comes of all the conflict Tally has brought to smoke. You will see what David and Shay think of Tally now, after she betray them. It could get a little bit more descriptive, but this is definately the start of the climax.
pg.267 Burning Bridges Post 34
In my personal life the one person I think of as beautiful is my mom. She is calm most of the time, and is always kind of going with the flow of things. She is also pretty inside and out.
In my academic life the one person I think of as beautiful is a girl in my class she is very pretty, always upbeat, and very smart. She is just perfect.
pg.262 Pretty Minds Post 33
This quote means that when they make everyone pretty, they make everything that they do, look, and see pretty. They do this by making all their minds think along the same lines as everyone elses. This away there is no question on the prettieness of someone.
If I changed mentally or physically I would do two things. Mentally I would make myself able to be nice to people I don't particularly like. Physically I would make myself faster. (Chris Mitchell fast)

pg.253 The Secret Post 32
It once again shows how protected New Pretty Town really is, they have never heard of parents and kids looking alike, because most parents get the surgery so they look "pretty."
pg.243 Bravery Post 31
Simile-"Without even trying, she'd shafted her best friend, like a walking poison, she killed everything. pg.244
Imagery-"The orchids glowed with pale malevolence in the moonlight, a frozen sea against the dark shore of the forest." pg.245
Personification-Talking about the orchids "...choking the life out of other plants, out of the soil itself, selfish and unstoppable." pg.244
Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?
Not really, because she is kind of forced to meet them if she doesn't then she will make David unhappy. So I think she doesn't really have a choice.
pg.229 Suspicion Post 30
Yes and no, yes in the fact that she informed Tally of everything about smoke, and got her in with everyone. No because she is her best friend, and should be happy for her.
Tally recieved a gift form David in the chapter that is special. Have you ever received something that made others jealous as this gift did? Did you gift have a meaning behind it as Tally's had?
No I really haven't, because I don't have any bros or sisters to be jealous of, so I'd have to say not.
pg.220 Hearththrob Post 29
It would have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the smoke, because then she wouldn't have felt so bad, for betraying her friends. She wouldn't have known what they all went through to get here, or what it is like her. Then she wouldn't have to live with the burdon of destroying the smoke.
pg.213 David Post 28
I think they ran away, because they knew what really went on after the surgery, and they didn't want to be a apart of that. They knew it was more harmful than it was helpful. "They reversed the operation!" "Yes" they did.

The Model p.195 Post 26
I think Shay's description of a model is pretty accurate, pretty face, very skinny. I also think they don't know about being over weight or under weight. They just think to be pretty you have to look like a template of everyone else. Both of them think the model has tight cheek bones, and skinney legs and arms, when really they just don't have any fat on them. They do have the fact that no matter what they look like, they all act as if they don't notice. Which means we all think ourselfs or someone else is pretty in the way that they or you see them.
Lies p.187 Post 25
- ugly
- crooked smile
- few years older than Tally
- forehead was too high
Find a picture to represent what you think the smoke looks like and post it on your blog with an explanation of why you chose it.

I think Smoke looks like this, because it looks mysteriously enchanting. Your not sure whats in it, but you have a feeling it is something good.
Bug Eyes p.178 Post 24
- Tally wakes up to find she is caught in a fire.
- She is rescued by the bug eyes.
- She gets to ride on a helicopter, and Tonk tells her about the orchids.
- He asks her if she is going to smoke, and she say yes, so he drops her of near the "bald head".
Respond to the following quote:
"Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend."
This quote tells how Tally feels right now, trapped until she cooperates. This means that she will have to make a decision for what she wants. To betray her friend, or live as an ugly forever.
Firestorm p.172 Post 23
Imagery-Then a tearing noise filled the air, the crackle of dry brush inflamed, and the smell of smoke swept over Tally, bringing her suddenly and completely awake. pg.172
Personification-The fire was growing stronger. Fingers of it shot up the hill, leaping from one beautiful flower to another, leaving them scorched and black. pg.172
Simile-Her footsteps ignited with flame as she ran throught the blackened flowers, like stabbing a poker into a slumbering fire. pg.173
The Side you Despise p.164 Post 22
I think the flying machine was a helicoptor, because it said it made a tornado through camp, and when helicoptors get low to the ground they do that. I think that David was in the helicoptor, because he is suppose to be the "guy" that smoke revolves around.
The Worst MIstake p.156 Post 21
Yes I do that everyday, just on little things like doing laundry, cleaning my room, and washing the dishes. Everyone does stuff they don't want to do everyday.
Predict what you think will happen next.
I think she will finally meet the runaways, and find smoke.

Peanut Butter and Jelly dehyderated sandwich. I would take this because I love PB&J. I would make it by taking made full PB&J's, and dehyderate them, and stick them in a ziploc bag. Then when ever they were released to air, they would chemically turn back into a fresh tasting PB&J.
Make a list of things you would miss about your home if you were forced to leave it as Tally was.
- My dog
- Food of variety
- Comfortable Bed
- TV
- Family
- A/C
- Xbox 360
- My Cat
- Four Wheelers
- My phone
Leaving p.139 Post 19
I think Tally goes back, because she wants to be pretty more than anything. Even though she likes to be adventureous, she still wants to be a pretty like Peris. Also, I think she is curious of where Shay could be.
Infiltrator p.129 Post 18
- Tally goes back to see Dr. Cable.
- She told her about what Shay had told her.
- Dr. Cable tells her the list was designed so only Tally could read it.
- She tells her she will need to be the infiltrator.
- Dr. Cable shows Tally a picture of herself ugly, then gets her to agree to the plan.
Peris p.120 Post 17
I think Peris came back, because the Special Circumstances people told him to help convince Tally to follow through with the plan.
"You'll love it, Tally. Being pretty's the best thing ever. And I'll enjoy it about a million times more once you're there with me."

Ugly for Life p.111 Post 16
"Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was the most visible she'd ever felt."
This post really means that even though she feels weird looking like an ugly, it is the most attention she has ever gotten, and it's not be cause she is pretty. People are trying to not pay any attention to her.
Special Circumstances p.102 Post 15
- Tally rode over to a new part of town, and got air sick for the first time in her life.
- Dr. Cable questioned her about whether or not she knew why she was here.
- They then asked her about Shay, and whether or not she knew what happend to her. That she had ran away.
- She wouldn't break the promise she made with Shay so she didn't say anything.
- They told her if she didn't cooperate then she would never be able to become pretty.
Characterization: Dr. Cable
- terrible ugly
- mean
- woman
- aquiline nose
- sharp teeth
- eyes nonreflective gray
- slow neutral cadence voice
Operation p.96 Post 14 part 2
- Tally waited for the taxi, and thought of all the things that will be happening to her once she becomes a pretty.
- She talked to a young boy while she was waiting.
- Tally was picked up, and hovered to the waiting room
- She waited for more than an hour, when an terribly pretty man came in, and told her there was going to be a problem with her surgery.
Last Trick p.85 Post 14
"We don't have to look like everyone else, Tally, and act like everyone else. We've got a choice. We can grow up any way we want."
This quote really means that Shay wants Tally to really think if this is what she wants with her life. Also, it means that Shay probably knows what the life of a pretty is like, which makes her not want to become one.
Fight p.76 Post 13
The first fight was really just a prank that Tally, and Shay wanted to do, to scare the little ones. The second fight happened not intentionally, but only because Tally referred to herself as ugly, and Shay didn't like that she thought about herself like that. Also, the fight in the library was a big commotion, the one in the river was very quiet and didn't make a scene. The outcome of the first fight was that everyone got scared, and the girls just ran away. The outcome of the second fight was that, they got into an arguement, and Shay left Tally in the river all alone.
Waiting for David p.69 Post 12
"That was one thing about being outside the city: It made all that nature stuff they taught in school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how rainwater fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground..."
This quote tells just how protected the people in the city are. They have no clue what really goes on outside of their city. Even though they are taught things most of them never actually apply to them.

Rusty Ruins p.61 Post 11
- Shay takes Tally to the roller coaster, and they ride it.
- Tally jumps the part of the roller coaster that is missing a piece, and Tally is thrown out of her comfort zone.
- She gets mad at Shay for a minute then she feels all kinds of different emotions.
- Shay tells Tally about David, and how he showed her and told her most of these cool things.
Two Similies in this Chapter
"The rusties had been stuck down in these streets like a horde of rats trapped in a burning maze." pg.61
"Every building sported jagged spurs of metal stick up from its broken walls, like bones jutting from a long dead animal." pg.62
Rapids p.53 Post 10
I personally don't agree with Tally, because I would rather know what is going on around me, than having secret getting passed on. That is one of my pet peeves is not knowing what is going on around me.
It is interesting to note that whitewater rafting was one of the earliest forms of transportation. It was not only used for carrying people but also for transferring goods from one place to another. However, it became quite popular as a form of leisure activity in the 1980s.
In 1811, the first recorded attempt to navigate the Snake River in Wyoming was planned by the Overland Astorians. While attempting to boat the stretch below Jackson Hole, the river was found to be too treacherous and it came to be called ?Mad River.?
The rubber river raft is believed to have been invented in the early 1840s. It was first made by Lt. John Fremont, who was then serving in the U.S army and Horace H. Day. They invented the rubber raft with the intention of surveying the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains. Although the raft was invented in the mid-nineteenth century, it was not until the turn of the century that the first ever commercial whitewater trip was undertaken. At first, surplus military rafts were used as boats and it was only much later that inflatable rafts were used.
Private companies played a major role in augmenting the rafting business. In 1956, one of the members of the most affluent business families of America, John D. Rockefeller built a resort that introduced one of the first floating trips in the country. However, it only evoked a lukewarm response. Later, in the 1960s and 1970s, exclusive whitewater rafting companies were formed. These include the Becker-Cooke Expeditions, Hatch River Expeditions and Slickrock Adventures.
Rafting was first included in the Munich Olympic Games, 1972. Subsequently, it was included in the 1992 Barcelona Games and the 1996 Atlanta Games. In 1996, the Ocoee River in Tennessee Valley played host to the whitewater events of the Summer Olympic Games

Pretty Boring p.46 Post 9
The rusty ruins is an old civilization that doesn't exsist anymore. It is where the school takes a field trip to every year to see how the older people use to live. It is basically like the places where we live now.
Define peer pressure. Think of a time when it happened to you or someone you know and explain the situation in a paragraph.
Peer pressure is the influence exerted by a peer group in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in a better or worse way. Better is by pressuring someone to get a good grade on a test. Worse is pressuring someone to smoke a cigaratte or drink alcohol.
About 2 years ago we were playing a baseball tournament at Baseball USA, we had made it all the way to the semi finals. In the last inning we were down by 2 runs, and we were down to our last 2 outs. I came up with 2 men on base. I thought to myself homerun wins it, base hit keeps us alive. I was being pressured from everyone on the entire field, even if they weren't making it obvious. On a 2-0 pitch I hit one of the prettiest hits I'd ever seen it sailed right over the left field fence... Home Run we were going to the finals. One of the very few times I didn't crack under the pier pressure.
Facing the Future p.39 Post 8
"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."...
"This whole game is just designed to
make us hate ourselves."
This quote is sadly how our world today is coming into. People say that in order to be beautiful you must do this or that. Like plastic surgeries half the people that get them don't need them they just want fuller lips, thinner waist or higher faces. It is a fact that everyone on the Earth is beautiful in their own way.
"Everyone judged everone else based on their appearance.People who were taller got better jobs... people killed one another over stuff like having different skin color."
This too is sadly apart of our society. Not as bad as it used to be in the 50s and 60s, but still happens today. For example, only 60 short years ago black people were not aloud half of the rights they are today, all because they have a different skin color. Tell me that is not right. Also, people profile each other from the minute they see them. If you walk into a convinence store and see a man with long unshaved beard, people kind of back up because they think he is a bad person.
"It's the only way to make people equal."
This quote means that if we make everyone equal what would people have to work for in life. There would be no point in life to try and make your life better, because it would be the same for everyone.

Shay p.23 Post 6
Tally bungee jumped off the roof and set of the fire alarm which attracted a lot of attention, so she took of running into the woods. Once she got close to the river she saw a figure in which she thought was a police officer so she froze. After a while she got tired and step on a branch which snapped, but the figure still didn't move. Finally she realized it was another ugly. They met her name was Shay, and they headed back to Uglyville together on her hooverboard.
What have you learned about Shay? Make a prediction about what will happen between them.
Shay is an adventure seeking girl like Tally. I think that throughout the rest of the book they will become good friends. After a while Shay will have to tell Tally the truth that they are nothing like the pretties, and I think this will hurt their friendship for a while.
Best Friends Forever 2 p.11 Post 5
Because it wouldn't be perfect to just jump off of a roof in case of a fire so bungee jumping makes it ok, because it is a perfect escape root.
Information about bungee jumping
Modern Bungee jumping began with a 4 man team from the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club jumping of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristo England, on April 1, dressed in their customary top hat and tails. The four neatly dressed adventures were immediately arrested. During the late 1980's A.J. Hackett opened up the first commercial jump site in New Zealand and to publicize his site, per formed an astonishing bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower! Bungee Jumping flourished in France and New Zealand during 1980's and was introduced to the united states by John and Peter Kockelman from California in late 1980's. In 1990's facilities opened up all over the united states with cranes, towers, and hot air balloons being use as jumping platforms.

Best Friends Forever p.11 Post 4
- an ugly
- frizzy hair
- brown hair and eyes
- almost 16
- wants to be a pretty
- has a scar on her hand
- friends with peris
Characterization: Peris
- clear skin
- symetrical physical features
- big dreamy eyes
- no scars
- is 16
- friends with tally
Friendship of Tally and Peris
I think the friendship of Tally and Peris is bogus, because Tally knows Peris knows he can't be seen being friends with Tally. Thats why I think it is not true also how can you be real friends if nobody can know or see them together.

New Pretty Town 2 p.3 Post 3
pg.10 " Tally smiled. The revelers were wearing mask. Ironic because now she can fit in like them.
Why do you think Tally chose to wear a mask to the party that was deemed "white tie"?
She was thinking to much about Peris that she forgot that her mask was a pig(an ugly animal), and it was a white tie party. Just goes to show that love will make you do some crazy things.
History about masks
a form of disguise. It is an object that is frequently worn over or in front of the face to hide the identity of a person and by its own features to establish another being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been used throughout the world in all periods since the Stone Age, and have been as varied in appearance as in their use and symbolism. www.anymask.com/historyofmask.html
How does this relate to Tally's decision?
This relates to her decision because in the text above it says a mask is essential characteristic of hiding personalitites or moods, or in Tally's case herself.
New Pretty Town p.3 Post 2
Yes, I have my friend Joey moved to Laredo two years ago, and before we use to basically live with each other, but now I havent't seen in probably a year and a half. It's sad how well you can know someone then all of a sudden they just kind of get lost in your mind. It's amazing how much it happens in the real world though.
Term
1) interface ring-it is a gadget that Tally uses in her world that is like her pass, it tracks her, and keeps records of what she does.
2) toothbrush pill- it is another thing in Tally's world you chew it and it cleans your teeth instead of using a toothbrush.
3)Cacophony- a weird mixture of loud noises.
Before Reading Post 1
What is beauty? What would the world be like if everyone was beautiful?
Ugly and Beauty Pictures
I describe this picture of a coffin as ugly because death is one of the worst things that happens in mankind, and seeing a coffin just makes you feel like the dead is around you. A very sad and scary thing that happens daily. Seeing death right in front of your own eyes almost makes me sick to my stomach, something that is beyond ugly.
